Homemade Treats Your Dog Will Love

During the holidays, I find that I am constantly cooking for my family.  Usually, my dog Ben gets the odd scrap or two after our Christmas dinner, but lately I have been feeling a little guilty when he looks at me with that “I expected so much more of you” look.  So, this year I decided to break out his favorite treat recipes and include him in the Christmas festivities!  If you feel like going the extra mile for your pup this holiday season, I am pleased to share with you Ben’s favorite recipes:

Turkey Treats

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 of a 10 oz canister of bread crumbs (plain or Italian)
  • Garlic powder

Mix well, then spread on an ungreased baking sheet (jelly roll pan with sides).  Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until soft & chewy.  When cool, slice into small squares.  Refrigerate or freeze.

Cheese & Garlic Bites

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 -1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon soft margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup milk

Mix flour and cheese together. Add garlic & margarine.   Slowly add milk until it forms a stiff dough. Knead on floured board for a few minutes.  Roll out to 1/4″ thick. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.  Let cool in oven.  Break into small pieces.  Store in the refrigerator.
